What is Love?

[Mindful disclaimer: I am neither in the possession of truth, nor do I have – as they say - monopoly on the truth. Everybody has to seek and find what’s true for them. I am just another soul on the path of Truth (with a capital T) – whatever that means. While I travel down the long and lonesome road of life’s ups and downs, I have chosen the art of writing as my tool to dig deeper, in hope of finding pieces of clues that will help me solve life’s mysteries. Like a transpersonal archeologist, I am digging deep, working on making sense of the fantastically puzzling questions that revolve around the meaning of life and human existence. I am looking for clues to human existence that will shift our consciousness and help us see things through different, more loving, compassionate, forgiving and kinder lenses. So that we may not only transform our own being, but humankind collectively.]

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made in perfect love.
— 1 John 4:18

Love is the profound law of this planet’s engineering. In Truth (with a capital T) everything in this dimension is built on the law of Love. The person who is unable to love, is also unable to truly open up.

He or she is unable to authentically interact with others and exchange his or her own being in all of its humanness. To Love means to have the courage to be vulnerable. Without vulnerability true love isn’t possible.

Love stands in the beginning of everything. It is the spark of creation.

The Bible reads: “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1)

God, or whatever you choose to call this higher reality of divine consciousness, is Love. Divine, grand, wonderful, unconditional love. Love comes from the Divine.

In the beginning was Love. Pure and divine Love. We have been created in the likeness of the creator and thus we all are love. This is our Truth encoded in the center of our soul’s genetic core. Uncover this Truth and you’ll experience bliss; true happiness.

Without Love, nothing on this planet can grow. Love means growth.

We love and we help others grow. We nurture our plants, our pets, our children, our friends, our family.  We extend our love and they grow because we love them. This exchange is a very mutual one. Due to their love, we also are able to grow, to go into the world and fulfill our purpose.

Without love we become depressed. We die without love. Whoever isn’t in loving exchange with others cannot grow.

Love is the great healer. Love helps more than any other medicine in this world. To be loved means to be healed a little more.

Love which is suppressed makes us ill. We become sick if we do not express the love that we are, we have, we feel. We become depressed and anxious if we don’t receive love in return.

Love needs to be used to its fullest capacity. If we don’t use it, it clogs our life force energy and turns into hatred and resentment towards ourselves and others.

Love can also turn into Narcissim. Narcissus was so in love with himself, that he stared at his own reflection in the water all day long. He was unable to interact lovingly with another. Consequently, the love he accumulated and directed only at himself, served as his demise. Love needs to be directed at others. It cannot stay with us. That is not its purpose.

Be a courageous, vulnerable warrior and shoot your love out from the bow of your heart and into the world like golden arrows of light.

What remains in the end of this lifetime is not our material achievements and work.

The main question we will have to face on our deathbed is how much we loved.

We won’t be asked if we were Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist or Atheistic. What we will be asked, however, is: how much did we love?

That is the true common message of all religions.

He who loves is like the Divine. She who loves is Light. “God is Love and whoever remains in Love, remains in God and God remains with him.”, reads the Bible. To truly love from the center of your soul and heart means to recognize the Divine.

In a deep mystical experience of love, a human being no longer loves in human terms. The person won’t say “I love you” any longer, because he or she will have understood love on a much deeper level.

The borders between your personal self and an-other will have been blurred, wiped out. The illusion of separation will dissolve. The veil of illusion, staged by your Ego, will lift and you will understand the grand cosmic connection of your own being with all other beings.

In mysticism, the experience of unconditional love can ONLY be divine. It blurs all lines between me and the other person and is a beautiful, unifying experience.

To feel this way awakens compassion within us. Compassion for every single sentient being and its suffering. This deep understanding of the oneness of all brings about unity. And this unity in turn awakens an understanding of ethical behavior towards others.

If I understand that the idea of separation, of “us versus them” is no longer valid and an illusion all together, I will suddenly treat others like I would treat myself and my kin: with love, respect, and compassion. The eye doesn’t tell the foot: “I love you”. They belong together, they are one unity.

The last big revolution is a spiritual revolution, quietly happening in the hearts and souls of every single human being.

It shifts away from separation, from selfishness and fear and towards love, unity and oneness.

It is cultivation of love and loving interaction with others.

It is the understanding that we are becoming more and more like the Divine.

The Divine is unconditionally loving; it does not distinguish between race, skin color, nationalities or anything else we humans like to use to differentiate one from the other.

It is an equal Love.

Underneath all of our human differences, we are divine and equal.

To become more like the Divine. To Love with all your heart. That is the true purpose of this life.

How much have you loved today? Can you love even more tomorrow?
