One Is the Number of New Beginnings: Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017!
[Mindful disclaimer: I am neither in the possession of truth, nor do I have – as they say - monopoly on the truth. Everybody has to seek and find what’s true for them. I am just another soul on the path of Truth (with a capital T) – whatever that means. While I travel down the long and lonesome road of life’s ups and downs, I have chosen the art of writing as my tool to dig deeper, in hope of finding pieces of clues that will help me solve life’s mysteries. Like a transpersonal archeologist, I am digging deep, working on making sense of the fantastically puzzling questions that revolve around the meaning of life and human existence. I am looking for clues to human existence that will shift our consciousness and help us see things through different, more loving, compassionate, forgiving and kinder lenses. So that we may not only transform our own being, but humankind collectively.]
The new year 2017 is upon us.
As I am writing this, we are almost entering the last 24-hours before a new, fresh year is going to bless us with many more experiences, joys, sorrows and enlightenment.
In my own experience, the last days of an old year tend to be especially introspective. On a personal level 2016 has definitely turned out to be one of the most challenging years for me personally marked by a lot of grief, disappointment, bitterness, but also many a-blessing. It’s always interesting to see that everywhere I turn I hear such similar stories to my own and it does not matter where on this planet. It seems collectively this year hasn’t been the easiest for many. This is certainly true if we turn to politics and global affairs – it seems like a very dark age has dawned for our planet.
However, I want to assume that this is only an illusion – a wake-up call, if you may, intended to trigger our collective initiation into a higher level of consciousness. And I do have strong evidence for it too, rooted in mystical texts that have existed before our time. Unfortunately, the scope of this post does not allow me to elaborate on this here, hence I will talk about this in another post.
Back to 2016: From a numerology standpoint, 2016 was a 9 year (2+0+1+6=9). The number 9 vibrates on concepts such as universal spiritual laws, karma, spiritual enlightenment, service to humanity and humanitarianism. It is also the last number in a sequence of ten and Pythagoreans considered it to be unlucky as it is one short of ten. That also makes it a number of completion and fulfillment.
For many people this year things came to an end – relationships, careers, concepts and ideas of ourselves. We were forced to step out of our comfort zones and face our own darkness – fears and pain included.
Shamans all over the world have known about this concept ever since the beginning of time. The neophyte shaman would have to step into the underworld and metaphorically die, which was often a scary and gruesome experience as limbs would get dismembered and cleaned by horrific creatures before they were reassembled. After this metaphorical death and cleansing procedure, the newly initiated shaman, having stepped into a higher realm of consciousness, would return to his tribe to serve his community as healer and diviner.
In order to step into a new beginning and evolve physically, emotionally and spiritually we often have to bring on our inner shaman. We have to die a little and shed old skin – which, yes, is a painful and emotionally taxing experience – before we can fully step into a new beginning and higher consciousness.
This is what 2016 was all about. Completion, enlightenment and preparation for new beginnings.
So if 2016 was the year of endings then that must mean that 2017 is…
...you guessed it, a year of new beginnings!
(YAYAYAYAY! *Small dance around the Christmas tree*)
Now, let’s all pause for a moment and sigh a huge breath of relief...
.....Yes, the good news is: we’ve made it and the worst is behind us. We are about to embark into a year that promises to be full of new beginnings, opportunities, joy and success. :)
The year 2017, which we will welcome to planet Earth in round about 24 hours, is vibrating on the energy of the number 1 (2+0+1+7=1). For the Pythagoreans the number 1 is considered perfect and consequently very lucky. In numerology, the number 1 resonates with new beginnings, independence, positivity, creation, striving forward and progress.
Now, doesn’t that sound perfectly splendid?
That leaves only one more thing for me to write:

Beannacht: A Blessing for the New Year
By John O’Donohue
On the day when
The weight deadens
On your shoulders
And you stumble,
May the clay dance
To balance you.
And when your eyes
The grey window
And the ghost of loss
Gets in to you,
May a flock of colours,
Indigo, red, green,
And azure blue,
Come to awaken in you
A meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
In the currach of thought
And a stain of ocean
Blackens beneath you,
May there come across the waters
A path of yellow moonlight
To bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of light be yours,
May the fluency of the ocean be yours,
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.
